Trick Tip: How to Flip Unturndown

A few pointers on how to flip unturndown with Rocky Mountain Bikes rider Jarrett Moore.

I have been getting a lot of questions about how to do flip unturndowns recently, so I thought I would share some of the problems I ran into, and how I was able to get over them. I was lucky enough to get some help from Aubrey Lietz in the beginning and thought it was only fair to pass on the advice.

Read on and learn,

Technique:

Firstly, before you begin it is important that you have both cork flips and unturndowns all dialed. The more comfortable you are with both of these tricks the easier it will be to put them together.

-I start by rolling into a jump that I am comfortable on and have cork flipped a few times beforehand.
-I normally go roughly one pedal stroke faster, as I also tend to lose a bit of distance with this trick.
-I would say it's about comparable to how much faster I go when a straight flip a jump compared to when I straight air the same said jump.
-As I start pre-loading on the lip, I drop my butt to the right and roll into the cork flip.
-At this point I crack the table, and continue to hold the table, while rotating, until I get just over halfway through the rotation.
-I then un-crack the table and flick my head back to finish the rotation and look for the landing.

Problems

Under rotation:

The best way to get over this problem is to table the same way you cork flip. What I mean by this, is that the rotation of the bike, matches up with the rotation of the cork flip. For instance, if you cork flip to the right, you must bring the table up towards your left shoulder.

Getting Spun 180:

If you find that you are starting to spin sideways all you need to do is hold your table for a little longer. Un-cracking your table too early will lead to the generation of momentum that will cause you to rotate horizontally.

Good luck and remember to be safe!

maybe you guys can help me out with a couple suggestions on what tricks to do next! I would love to get some input. Just to give a little tease..... Nac-nac's, supercans and unturndowns are next on the chopping block. Anything you would like to see?

Love the vidder Jarrett, I'll be Flip Unturndowning in a matter of days with those tips! I think you need to get Suicide Can's onto your to do list, then maybe rig up some FMX style levers for a Kiss of Death.

Well that didn't make much sense to me. I'd love to see more of these on simpler tricks though. Supermans, Cans, Tuck no handers, cliff hangers, 360s, 720s...

I'm more of a hucker than a tricker so some of the more basic tricks would be cool to get some tips for, like suicidedownhiller said. I'd love to advance a bit past whips, tables, x-ups and no-handers so maybe some tips for things like no footed cans and barspins would help me out.

Hah. Ridiculous. This is so far beyond probably 95% of people on Pinkbike. Maybe the tutorials should start with something like "X-ups", "cornering" or "tables" or something a little more reasonable. Other than showing how good Jarrett Moore is (good, I might add), this serves little purpose. It's kind of like having a driving lesson for a 16 year old that begins in a Subaru rally car on a gnarly road. Yeeesh.

That is a simple trick like changing the spark plugs on an old VW is simple. Step one. Take out engine. Step two take out spark plug. HAHAHAHA Good one Jarret!
What do you roll for that trick?

Really though, it's nice to see really amazing stuff broken down into little mechanical pieces. Besides, who cares if any of us can do it. It's just paving the way for front flip unturnups or double backflip returndowns...
